Risk Officer
An opportunity exists to join this Investor in People Company in the above capacity. Metropolitan Lesotho is a wholly owned subsidiary of Momentum Metropolitan Group, a company registered on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. We are currently looking for a dynamic and self-motivated individual in the position of Risk Officer based in Maseru. Lesotho. The incumbent will report directly to the Risk and Compliance Manager.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To oversee the Company wide system for recording risks, while providing independent oversight from a risk management point of view.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- To work as part of the Company’s 2nd line of defense, supporting the embedding of operational risk management frameworks to ensure they are robust and remain up to date
- To work with the business to identify, quantify and assess risks.
To support the embedding of a robust enterprise risk management framework, including risk management and risk frameworks reviews, which are to be monitored on a regular basis.
To monitor, evaluate and assess all aspects of the risk strategy. - To review the methodology used for risk assessment and control and make suggestions for change as required
- To assist the business in identifying risks and controls and ensure they are accurately evaluated and recorded in the risk database
- To maintain and enhance risk and loss event recording and reporting, and where possible, make recommendations to the business to avoid further losses
To support the creation of accurate and meaningful risk reports to committees (and management) as required, ensuring the analysis is fit for purpose and can be used to assist in making business decisions. - Support the Risk & Compliance Manager through the preparation of reports and proposals for submission to relevant committees
- Monitor developments across the Insurance industry and make use of external market data available to benchmark performance and inform analysis and/or recommendations where appropriate.
- Respond to ad hoc risk issues at all levels of the organization.
- Ensure that the portfolio strategies and processes are compliant with the appropriate regulations and regulator guidance.
- Support the business to evaluate risk events and opportunities using root cause analysis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Degree in Risk Management or any equivalent qualification
- Understanding of risk management concepts.
- Experience within 2nd line of defence operational and/or credit risk environment preferably within financial services.
- Business Analysis experience.
- Knowledge of the ISO 31000, Lesotho’s Laws and Codes of Best Practice.
