JOB TITLE – ELECTRICAL ENGINEER x 2
SECTION – ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING (GRID AND OFF-GRID)
SALARY – NEGOTIABLE
REPORT TO – PROJECT/UNIT MANAGER
LOCATION – MASERU (With frequent field work to districts)
DURATION – EIGHT (8) MONTHS
INTRODUCTION
The Ministry of Energy, under the Project Implementing Unit called Rural Electrification Unit (REU), is charged with the mandate and responsibility of increasing access to energy services in identified rural and semi-rural areas of Lesotho. To complete the identified projects for the current financial year, the Ministry requires additional manpower in the Electrical Engineering Department. It is thus based on the foregoing that the Ministry invites applications from suitably qualified Basotho nationals for two (2) positions of Engineer (Grid and Off -Grid) tenable at Rural Electrification Unit (REU) Moposo House, Maseru.
OBJECTIVE
To oversee the implementation of electrification projects for eight (8) months in the current financial year. One for Grid projects and the other one for Off -Grid projects.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES – ENGINEER (GRID):
- Design the grid network for new projects micro-station or CAD
- Assesses capacity of distribution networks
- Supervises implementation of electrification projects by the Private Contractors
- Develop criteria for ranking of electrification projects
- Maintains database on existing distribution networks
- Develops capacity of community-based organisation for management of distribution network
- Supervises the Consultants engaged by the Unit
- Prepares information on safety in use of electricity
- Identifies new electrification projects
- Develops guidelines for Independent Power Products (IPPs) to operate in the country in consultation the Manager.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ENGINEER OFF-GRID)
- Undertakes renewable energy resources assessment
- Designs and implements projects on utilisation of renewable energy technologies such as Solar, wind and mini-hydro
- Supervises implementation of renewable energy projects by the private sector
- Integrates non-grid projects with other infrastructure development projects such as irrigation and telecommunication.
- Develops criteria for selection of renewable energy technology
- Prepares a detailed technical analysis for the off-grid electrification projects
- Enforces compliance with standards for solar electrification
- Develops standards for off -grid electrification projects
- Advises the communities on suitable off -grid solutions for their electricity needs
- Solves problems related to electricity supply for off -grid projects
- Enforces compliance with standards for off -grid electrification projects
- Undertakes renewable energy assessment
- Designs and implements projects on utilization of renewable energy technologies such as solar, wind and mini-hydro
- Supervises implementation of renewable energy projects by the private sector
- Integrates non-grid projects with other infrastructure development projects such as water for irrigation and telecommunication.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Post graduate degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering with three (3) years experience in the energy field
OR
First degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering plus five (5) years experience in energy field. Knowledge of network design software. E.g. micro-station will be an added advantage.
