Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the following positions tenable in the Ministry of Health.
JOB TITLE: PSYCHOLOGIST
GRADE: H
NO. OF POSITION: ONE (1)
RESPONSIBLE TO: DIRECTOR MENTAL HEALTH
JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Director Mental Health, the incumbent is responsible for psycho diagnostics tests, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, educate. training of health workers and carry out research in mental services and facilitates the integration of centres with departments.
MAIN DUTIES:
- PSYCHODIAGNOSTIC TESTS
1.1 Observe patients and interpret intelligence and personality
1.2 Assesses clients for psychological, emotional and behavioural disorders
1.3 Evaluates learning and emotional problems in children
1.4 Develop and implement treatment plans and therapeutic processes
1.5 Monitor patients progress
Conduct research - UNDERTAKE PSYCHOTHERAPY DIAGNOSIS
2.1 Gather information about patients
2.2 Diagnosing mental health disorders and developing individualised treatment plans
2.3 Leading therapy sessions with clients individually. as couples, in groups. or with families
2.4 Assessing a client’s progress and adjusting treatment plans as needed
2.3 Keeping accurate and up-to-date records of clients’ treatment and progress - TRAUMA THERAPY
3.1 Establish and maintain therapeutic relationship with client appointment. - Conduct biopsychosocial assessments with patients and/or their families, with special attention to histories of trauma
- Conduct individual sessions in person with patients, as well as with partners. family. groups. or others as clinically appropriate.
- Provide a diagnosis at the conclusion of sessions.
- Develop treatment plans, and progress reports
- Conduct follow-up with patients
- keep neat, accurate, up to date Patients records
- CRISIS INTERVENTION
4.1 Provides emergency intervention to victims who are in emotional desperate position
4.2 Sexual abuse whereby the victim has to return to the same environment when she/he leaves the hospital/centre.
4.3 Alcohol and drug abuse whereby the client physically abuses his/her family. - EDUCATION AND TRAINING
5.1 Provides in-service training to health workers in need of psychological knowledge
5.2 Provides counselling training to cadres in need
5.3 Shares knowledge and expertise with fellow health workers - MENTAL HEALTH EDUCATION
6.1 Undertake mental Health advocacy
6.2 Promote mental and physical health - RESEARCH
7.1 Carrys out research in mental health related issues. behavioural dynamics. preventive. promotive and rehabilitative activities. - MANAGE PERFORMANCE OF STAFF
1.1 Prepares the Annual performance plan for the Division.
1.2 Provides technical supervision of staff and coordinates activities of all units.
1.3 Monitor Progress and Mentor staff
1.4 Recommends for capacity building of staff
1.5 Appraise staff
JOB SPECIFICATION
Masters degree majoring in Sociology and Psychology plus 2 years relevant working experience
OR
Bachelors degree majoring in Sociology and Psychology plus 4 years relevant working experience
