Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the following positions tenable in the Ministry of Health.

JOB TITLE: PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER
GRADE: G
RESPONSIBLE TO: PUBLIC RELATIONS MANAGER

JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Public Relations Manager. the incumbent will plan Public Relations programme, implement outreach programme. establish media relations programme. contribute in the preparation of annual recurrent budget and annual report, delop and present operations manuals for the Ministry, contribute to the smooth running of the office.

MAIN DUTIES

  1. IMPLEMENTATION OF PUBLIC RELATIONS PROGRAMME
  • Identify the public relations goals and objectives of the Ministry
  • Liaise with PR-Manager to plan public relations activities
  • Contribute to the development of print, visual and audio- visual materials on all mandated areas of the Ministry
  • Identity communication areas that require improvements in order to realign them with current plans of the Ministry
  • Conduct both local and international circles
  1. PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN OUTREACH PROGRAMME
  • Consult PR Manager to draw up an annual outreach programme
  • Liaise with district secretaries, head of departments and chiefs for hosting of health promotion national events in their area
  • Address public gatherings. seminars, seminars. workshops and meetings throughout the country on the role functions of the Ministry
  • Contributes to distribution of all health promotion and publicity materials in collaboration of health education
  • Ensure the regular publication and distribution of the Ministry of Health newsletter
  • Submit reports on own outreach activities
  • Establish a system for evaluating the impact of the outreach programme
  1. ESTABLISHMENT OF MEDIA RELATIONS PROGRAMME
  • Contribute to the drawing up and implementation of a regular radio and TV broadcast programme on all aspect of health promotion in Lesotho
  • Organize media coverage of all health events held on both central and peripheral venues for wildest publicity
  • Organize press conferences. issue press statements and releases in relation to the implementation of mandates of the Ministry
  • Establish a system for evaluating the impact of the outreach programme
  1. ESTABLISHMENT OF MEDIA RELATIONS PROGRAMME
    Contribute to drawing up and implementation of a regular radio and TV broadcast programme on all aspects of health promotion in Lesotho
  2. Organize press conferences. issue press statements and releases in relation to
    implementation of mandates of/the Ministry
  3. Ensure control and correctness of health information leaving the Ministry
  4. Contribute to the regular updates the web page of the Ministry
  5. Provide advice to the Minister of Health/spokespersons and/assist them in preparations for interviews and media events
  6. Carry out protocol duties to the Ministry
  7. Establish a solid and well maintained media list
  8. Provide on the job training to coworkers where qualified and undergo training where necessary

  1. CONTRIBUTE TO SMOOTH RUNNING OF THE HEALTH EDUCATION DIVISION
  • Participate in the management and general meetings of the office for smooth running
  • Participate in relevant seminars and conferences both locally and internationally to ensure that the division and the Ministry are in line with national and international trends

JOB SPECIFICATION
Master’s in public relations. Journalism or Media Studies from recognized institution
OR
Bachelor’s degree in public relations, Journalism or Media studies with at least 3 years related work experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must be able to articulate and fluent in both English and Sesotho and other languages
    Broad knowledge of use of media and broadcasting
  • Commendable interpersonal and communication skills
  • ⁠Problem solving and analytic skills
