Position Title: Dairy Development Manager
Level: Managerial
Duration: 5 years
Duty Station: Maseru
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer


Lesotho National Dairy Board (LNDB), a body corporate established under Legal Notice No. 246 of 1991 as amended, is mandated to promote, regulate and enhance the development of dairy industry in Lesotho. LNDB is desirous to recruit Dairy Development Manager.


The incumbent will undertake the following tasks:

  1. In collaboration with the Department of Livestock Services and other relevant stakeholders initiate, develop
    and implement appropriate strategies and programs for the development of resilient dairy industry in Lesotho Manage collection, analysis and dissemination of information pertaining to the performance of the dairy industry with regard to milk production.
  2. Create, manage and maintain Lesotho’s dairy farmer’s database.
  3. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of dairy farming development, promotion and information dissemination strategies and programs.
  4. Design and implement short-term training programs for existing and potential dairy farmers.
  5. Develop and implement programs aimed at improving genetic potential of dairy cattle herds and goats in collaboration with dairy farmers and other relevant stakeholders.
  6. Evaluate the potential for goats’ milk production with the purpose of increasing goats’ milk in the country
  7. To promote goat’s milk production in the country.
  8. To ensure timely procurement of animal feeds and other items such as milking equipment necessary to support dairy farmers.
  9. Responsible for all the inventories of animal feeds and other items sold to the dairy farmers.
  10. To supervise and provide on-the-job training to dairy technicians and temporary staff placed in the Dairy Development Department
  11. To partake in LNDB’s strategic plan development from which he/she shall develop and implement operational plans for the Dairy Development Department.
  12. To promote local production and preservation of fodder as well as encouraging local manufacturing or processing of animal feeds
  13. To timely produce monthly, quarterly and annual departmental plans and performance reports
  14. To carry out research and surveys related to milk production situation in the country and write publishable articles with clear recommendations.
  15. To perform any other duties that may be assigned which are necessary for the LNDB to carry out its mandate.
  • Qualifications and experience
    Masters in Animal Production (large livestock) or Masters in Animal Nutrition (large livestock) or Masters in Animal Health with 3 years’ relevant experience.
  • Bachelor in Animal Science with at least 5 years’ relevant experience.


The following shall be added advantage:

  • Strong background in dairy farming, breeding and nutrition.
  • Academic Publications with a list of published academic papers.
  • PhD in animal nutrition or PhD in animal breeding
    Necessary attributes
  • Ability to conduct research independently and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, ability to build and lead team(s).

Duration of the contract
Successful candidate shall be on fixed term five-year (5) contract.
