The Trust for Community Outreach and Education (TCOE) is a national organisation established in 1983 operating across six Provinces of South Africa strengthening rural movements towards land reform and rural livelihoods promoting Agro-Ecology and alternatives; campaigning and advocating for rural democracy.
TCOE seeks to appoint a National Rural Democracy and Governance Campaigns Coordinator, preferably to be based in the Cape Town office.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Implement TCOE’s national strategy on democratisation of governance
Working closely with local organisers, ensures that actions of local movements strengthen a national campaign to democratise governance.
Provide support to local organisers in their efforts to strengthen democratisation campaigns by local movements
Liaise with the various workstreams of TCOE
Follow and engage in national debates on governance and democracy
Review and Analyse policies;
Organise, supports, facilitation and coordinates local campaigns and struggles;
Provide strategic leadership and support to rural movements (National Land Rural Movement);
Facilitate engagement with policy makers;
Accompaniment to local farm workers and landless;
Work as part of a team to provide innovation, perspective building and support to field staff;
Understand context and be able to analyse issues related e.g. rural democracy and local government processes
Input to press statements.
Requirements
Relevant and equivalent university qualifications
Minimum of five years ‘ experience in the sector
An understanding of NGO work and environment
Sound understanding of issues of local government and the rural sector
History of involvement in issues of governance in municipalities and rural areas
Experience in developing and managing campaigns that involve communities and other stakeholders
Ability to develop and manage alliances and relations with other stakeholders
Ability to work with people of various backgrounds
Experience with lobbying, advocacy and campaigning
Strategic thinker with basic research and work well in a collective
Good writing skills and presentation skills in English
Own transport and valid unendorsed Code 8 Driver’s license
Extensive travel will be required
Self -driven and managing
Ability to work under pressure and set priorities
