Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for two positions of Laboratory Demonstrator in the Department of Soil Science and Resource Conservation

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum qualification requirement is a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture or Laboratory Technology. Postgraduate qualification in soil science, experience in an academic or industrial laboratory environment with exposure and familiarity with laboratory technology/ instrumentation and experimental field work will be an added advantage.

DUTIES:
Under the overall supervision of the Head of Department specific guidance of respective course instructors, the general duties and responsibilities of the Laboratory Demonstrator entail the following:

  • Safe operation and maintenance of instrumentation, equipment and soil science laboratories.
  • Supporting staff and students with research projects in the field and laboratory.
  • Tutoring / guidance to students who are carrying out laboratory exercises.
  • Assisting staff in marking student tests set by the course instructor using defined marking criteria where marking requires little or no interpretation.
  • Proving feedback on student performance and any issues arising in the course of the demonstration, to the course instructor.
  • Paying attention and awareness of any health and safety implications, and take action to maintain a safe environment, raising any concerns with the course instructor.
  • Maintain student laboratory attendance records.
  • Consult and obtain concurrence of the Head of Department before performing laboratory analysis for any other person except for registered students and members of the Department.
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Head of the Department of Soil Science and Resource Conservation.
