The Ministry of Health has received support from Center for Disease Control (CDC) under the project titled “Strengthening Ministry ofHealth’sCapacity (MOH-Cap) for HIV Diagnosis, Treatment and Monitoring in the Kingdom of Lesotho”. The Ministry is looking for a suitable candidate for the position of Laboratory Technologist.

POSITION: Laboratory Technologist

LOCATION: Berea Hospital – Berea

REPORT TO: Director Laboratory Services

JOB PURPOSE

Implement safety precautions and quality assurance

MAIN DUTIES

  1. IMPLEMENTATION OF QUALITY AND SAFETY PROCEDURES
  2. Adhere to organizational and departmental specific safety standards and guidelines
  3. Daily prepares disinfectants according to the SOPs
  4. Daily cleans, disinfects working environment and updates logs
  5. Daily checks and monitors environmental temperatures (room, fridge, freezer)
  6. Dispose of completed samples according to the guidelines.
  • PREPARATION OF SPECIMEN FOR ANALYSIS
  • Daily receives samples and matches them with request forms
  • Daily monitors the quality of samples according to specimen rejection criteria specified in the Laboratory Handbook and documents reasons for specimen rejection.
  • Daily records of patients/clients’ names in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) or the laboratory log book.
  • Prepares samples for processing and analysis
  • ANALYSIS OF SAMPLES
  • Daily conduct equipment maintenance and document.
  • Daily calibrate machines, run internal controls as per quality guidelines and Standard Operating procedures (SOPs) and document.
  • Review control results and initiate corrective action where applicable.
  • Daily analysis samples as per protocol /SOPs
  • Daily check for flagging results and take corrective measures.
  • Refer critical results to SLT
  • Store or archive samples as per stipulated procedures.
  • REPORTING OF RESULTS
  • Daily submits results to Senior Laboratory Technologist for verification
  • Daily record verified findings and results into the laboratory information system (LIS) or laboratory logbook.
  • Weekly compiles quality control and equipment calibration results and submit them to the Senior Laboratory Technologist for review.
  • RECORDS KEEPING
  • Daily files of patient records
  • Daily dispatches of patients/ client results
  • Monthly compilations of bench statistics in the section and submits to the senior Laboratory Technologist
  • Monthly conducts a stock count
  • EDUCATION AND TRAINING
  • Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences
  • KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Duration and Remuneration:

This position is for fifteen (15) months.

The salary for this position is market-related but will also be commensurate with requisite qualifications and experience.
