JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision of Dean of Student Affairs, the Psychologist is responsible for providing counselling, research and help LP – Community with social, behavioral and emotional challenges. Perform comprehensive psychosocial assessment of students and staff as per need.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The key duties of the post are as follows :-

  1. Perform comprehensive psychosocial assessments of students and staff as per need.
  2. Provide evidence-based psychosocial care, treatment and support to LP students and staff.
  3. Support LP staff and students (re)integration, to gain family support, to relate with social reference points (such as fellow students and staff).
  4. Support students & staff (re)integration in a work environment.
  5. Identify sources of stigma and discrimination and ways of reducing their negative effects on students and staff.
  6. Study and understand the complexity of factors that affect the life of students & staff with chronic/various illnesses e.g. HIV, mental illnesses etc. and devise means of reducing the personal and socioeconomic effects of those illnesses.
  7. Facilitate trainings on psychosocial counselling with emphasis on adolescents, young adults and LP staff.
  8. Identify psychosocial support training needs for LP staff and build capacity of staff.
  9. Develop and revise training materials for LP staff (relevant for the position).
  10. Provide monthly updates to the reporting supervisor.
  11. Work in a professional manner and maintain good relationships with LP staff, including the clinic nurse.
  12. Perform other duties as required by the reporting supervisor.
  13. He/she will be expected to provide training on life skills that support the holistic development of students and prepare them to enter professional stage upon completion of their studies.

NB*Because of the changing nature of our business your job description will inevitably change. You will, from time to time, be required to undertake other activities of a similar nature that fall within your capabilities as directed by management.

Experience

  1. Must have at least 5 years clinical working experience with Adolescents & Young people.

Personal attributes

  • Self-motivated.
  • Ability to work independently or with minimum supervision.
  • Be able to work with students from different background.
  • Be willing to supervise students for extra mural activities.

JOB SPECIFICATION

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Psychology and counselling or related field.

Knowledge and skills Required:

  1. Adequate professional formation to fulfil the demanded tasks.
  2. Experience in psychosocial counselling of marginalized groups is a clear asset.
  3. Good knowledge of spoken and written English.
  4. Non-judgmental attitude, humanitarian values and ethics are absolute preconditions.
  5. Proactive support of the core ideas of patients’ empowerment to get access to physical, mental, social and emotional health as well as human and legal rights is essential
  6. Good report writing and proficient with MS Office.
  7. Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  8. Excellent communication skills.
  • The candidate may be required to work from other satellite stations of the Polytechnic.
