JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision of Dean of Student Affairs, the Psychologist is responsible for providing counselling, research and help LP – Community with social, behavioral and emotional challenges. Perform comprehensive psychosocial assessment of students and staff as per need.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The key duties of the post are as follows :-
- Perform comprehensive psychosocial assessments of students and staff as per need.
- Provide evidence-based psychosocial care, treatment and support to LP students and staff.
- Support LP staff and students (re)integration, to gain family support, to relate with social reference points (such as fellow students and staff).
- Support students & staff (re)integration in a work environment.
- Identify sources of stigma and discrimination and ways of reducing their negative effects on students and staff.
- Study and understand the complexity of factors that affect the life of students & staff with chronic/various illnesses e.g. HIV, mental illnesses etc. and devise means of reducing the personal and socioeconomic effects of those illnesses.
- Facilitate trainings on psychosocial counselling with emphasis on adolescents, young adults and LP staff.
- Identify psychosocial support training needs for LP staff and build capacity of staff.
- Develop and revise training materials for LP staff (relevant for the position).
- Provide monthly updates to the reporting supervisor.
- Work in a professional manner and maintain good relationships with LP staff, including the clinic nurse.
- Perform other duties as required by the reporting supervisor.
- He/she will be expected to provide training on life skills that support the holistic development of students and prepare them to enter professional stage upon completion of their studies.
NB*Because of the changing nature of our business your job description will inevitably change. You will, from time to time, be required to undertake other activities of a similar nature that fall within your capabilities as directed by management.
Experience
- Must have at least 5 years clinical working experience with Adolescents & Young people.
Personal attributes
- Self-motivated.
- Ability to work independently or with minimum supervision.
- Be able to work with students from different background.
- Be willing to supervise students for extra mural activities.
JOB SPECIFICATION
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Psychology and counselling or related field.
Knowledge and skills Required:
- Adequate professional formation to fulfil the demanded tasks.
- Experience in psychosocial counselling of marginalized groups is a clear asset.
- Good knowledge of spoken and written English.
- Non-judgmental attitude, humanitarian values and ethics are absolute preconditions.
- Proactive support of the core ideas of patients’ empowerment to get access to physical, mental, social and emotional health as well as human and legal rights is essential
- Good report writing and proficient with MS Office.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills.
- The candidate may be required to work from other satellite stations of the Polytechnic.
