JOB TITLE : PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER

JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Principal Secretary, the incumbent will conduct governance by understanding and applying relevant policies, legislation, processes and procedures; creates, manages and implement public relations campaigns with the aim of enriching the Ministry’s position within the Public and maintains strong relationships with media representatives.

MAIN DUTIES

  1. TO CONDUCT GOVERNANCE
    1.1. Familiarize, understand and apply Ministry’s policies, processes and procedures.
    1.2. Manages internal and external information
    1.3. Identify areas that require improvements in order to realign them with current programmes of the Ministry.
  2. TO BUILD MINISTERIAL IMAGE
    2.1. Organize promotional events such as open days, exhibitions, tours and visits.
    2.2. Design, write and produce a Ministerial newsletter, articles, leaflets, reports, publicity brochures, information for Ministry’s website and promotional videos.
    2.3. Develop Internal and External Communication strategy.
    2.4. Work with the Management of the Ministry and relevant stakeholders to determine events’ budget and manage expenses to that budget.
    2.5. Promote services and special projects of the Ministry through Public Relations Initiatives.
    2.6. Plan and direct information programmes designed to create and maintain a favourable public image for the Ministry.
    2.7. Procure Sponsorship deals.
  3. TO MAINTAIN STRONG RELATIONSHIP MEDIA REPRESENTATIVES
    3.1. Create and deliver press releases, MPS newsletter content, Social media content and speaking proposals
    3.2. Analyses Media Coverage
    3.3. Organize media coverage of events held by the MPS to attain the widest publicity.
  4. TO PREPARE ANNUAL BUDGET AND ANNUAL REPORTS
    4.1. Prepare a budget for public relations activities for inclusion in the overall budget for the Office.
    4.2. Provide report on own activities on quarterly basis.

JOB SPECIFICATION
Master’s Degree in Journalism/Mass Communications/Public Relations with two (2) years relevant experience in the related field.
OR
Post graduate Diploma/ Honours Degree in Journalism/ Mass Communications/ Public Relations with two (2) years relevant experience in the related field.
OR
Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism/ Mass Communications/ Public Relations with two (2) years relevant experience in the related field.

Other Necessary knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent Communication skills both orally and in writing
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Advanced Computer literacy and IT Skills
  • Ability to prioritise and plan effectively
  • Knowledge of Public Service Rules and Regulations
  • Awareness of different Media Agendas
  • Ability to work under pressure
