PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To ensure overall effective operation and management of the clinic. Supervise junior medical and administrative staff assigned to the clinic. Ensure compliance through participation of Health and Safety Audits and quality assurance as well as development, review and implementation of policies, guidelines and protocols for the clinic.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & RELATED EXPERIENCE
• Degree in Nursing with 3 years’ practical experience as a Nursing Officer.
• Diploma in Occupational Health OR Diploma in General Nursing with 5 years’ practical experience as an Occupational Health Nursing Officer
• Registered with the Lesotho Nursing Council
• Basic Life Support Certificate
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support and International Trauma Life Support Certificates will be an added advantage
• A valid driver’s license
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Primary Health Care:
• Examine and treat patients, subsequently referring them to other facilities
• Oversee monitoring of employees with chronic diseases and follow up on their treatment requirements
• Investigate any outbreaks and increasing illnesses on the Mine and communicate with H&S Manager
• Coordinate all activities in the primary Health Care
• Advise on health promotion and disease prevention to the workforce
• Ensure proper and up-to-date inventory of all assets and their proper utilization and safe keeping
Occupational Health Care:
• Ensure that medical screening certificates of all employees are kept at the clinic.
• Follow-up on all the employees with defects detected
• Schedule periodical medical examinations
• Conduct Health Talks on workplace Occupational Health Hazards
• Participate in Occupational Hygiene and Health Surveys
• Ensure that Occupational Health Risk Assessments Recommendations are included in the Medical Surveillance Program
• Assist Health & Safety Manager in Communicating employee limitations to immediate Supervisors
HIV/Aids Care:
• Implementation of the HIV/AIDS workplace Policy by:
- Conduct voluntary testing and counselling
- Coordinate HIV/AIDS campaigns
- Ensure confidentiality of all employees who are on Antiretroviral Treatment
- Conduct outreach programmes on Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD’s)
Emergency Care:
• Emergency Preparedness Plan implementation:
Participate in the development of the Emergency Preparedness Plan
Receive patients during emergencies and outbreaks
Stabilise trauma patients prior to referral
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
• Technical understanding of Occupational Health and Primary Health Care Management system
• Knowledge of Occupational and Primary Health Care
• Knowledge of HIV/AIDS Care
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Fluent in Sesotho and English
